You should think about a real workstation-pc with a real workstation-chipset which supports lot more of gigs of RAM (maybe 64GB), not like mainstream-pc chipsets which supports up to 4 gigs of RAM and you get only max 3.3 gigs free because of the reduced address-space. I think for such complex parts you have, 3GB of RAM could be to few. I had no problems to get Inventor running, even if the performance is not outstanding (under VMware you don't have 3D-acceleration and so on.)
INVENTOR AUTODESK REQUIREMNET PRO
I have a test-installation of Inventor 2008 Pro under a VMware Workstation virtual machine running Windows XP with 512MB RAM on a old AMD Athlon XP 1800+ (1.5 GHz) with 1GB old 266 MHz DDR-RAM as host. Looking for feed back of what I should be looking at for a computer package and also if anyone is running a extreme gaming computer what kind of performance would I receive from one. I read the recommendations for Autodesk which I think is a joke because I cannot even open inventor on my Sony with a Pentium 4 2.4 GHz with 2 gigs of ram at home it just crashes. I also have to shut down my master cam, AutoCAD mechanical and other applications to even get this performance, which is a pain in the rear when I need to make a quick fix in those other software’s. My assemblies would average about 200 parts but my parts seem large in size. I am at a point now where the computer is so slow when I am creating parts I cannot even try to assemble them in an assembly. I was looking to have a custom gaming computer made with a Intel extreme 3.4ghz quad core chipset with a buss speed of 12000 4 gigs of ddr 12000 ram and a raid 0 4 hard drive setup mirrored and striped and a NVIDIA 512 quarto fx graphics card running windows xp pro but as we all know those are pricey computers. Is my computer underpowered for what I am doing in my field? I am looking for recommendations of computer packages that work well with inventor. My computer running an Intel core duo2 2.4Ghz with a bus speed at 6600 with 3gigs of ddr5330 ram and a single sata hard drive with windows xp pro my graphics card is a NVIDIA 512 quarto fx. My parts are pretty complex averaging 300 to1,000 lines, arch’s, circles etc and triple the amount of constraints and dimensions.
My employer just went out and bought 4 new dell computers that are supposed to be top of the line I am running Autodesk inventor 2008 and the computer bogs way down in sketch mode and crashes when I create a feature.
